May Day Domestic Employees Celebration 2025: A Heartfelt Tribute to Our MDWs

On 10 August 2025, the Stephen Riady Auditorium came alive with joy, music, and heartfelt appreciation as over 1,200 Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), employers, and guests gathered to celebrate the May Day Domestic Employees Celebration 2025.

This annual event, organised by the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE), honours the invaluable contributions of MDWs to Singaporean households. The day was filled with vibrant activities — from karaoke and games to cultural performances and delicious snacks — creating a warm and festive atmosphere for all.

A highlight of the celebration was the “Let’s Wok Together” cooking competition, where we unveiled the Top 5 finalist-pairs. These MDW-employer teams showcased not only culinary creativity but also the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect. Congratulations to all finalists!

This year also marked a significant milestone: the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with The Salvation Army and Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy. These partnerships will enable more Cantonese and Hokkien workshops, supporting MDWs who care for dialect-speaking seniors, a meaningful step toward inclusive caregiving.

We were heartened to see more employers joining the celebration, standing in solidarity with their MDWs and cheering them on throughout the event. The energy in the auditorium was electric, especially during the lucky draw segment, which brought smiles and excitement to many.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated volunteers played a crucial role, from welcoming guests at Raffles Place MRT to ensuring smooth operations throughout the day. Their commitment exemplifies the spirit of community that CDE strives to foster.
